The Timeless Tradition of Pizzelles

History: Pizzelles are Italy's oldest known waffle cookies, deeply rooted in the traditions of Abruzzo since the 8th century.

Name: The name pizzelle is based on the Italian word ‘pizze’ meaning round and flat, with the ending ‘elle’ referring to its small size.

Tradition: Originally celebrated for their subtle sweetness and crisp texture, these delightful cookies have adorned countless festive occasions, often decorated with family crests.

Pizzelle Flavours

  • Vanilla

Complement the subtle sweetness of vanilla pizzelles with creamy desserts like custards or ice cream. They also pair beautifully with afternoon tea or a mild coffee blend, offering a light, sweet touch without overpowering the beverage.

  • Lemon

The zesty, refreshing taste of lemon pizzelles is perfect alongside fresh berries or as an accompaniment to sorbets and light, fruity desserts. Their citrusy notes also make them a delightful side to herbal teas or a chilled limoncello.

  • Anise

The bold, licorice-like flavor of anise pizzelles makes them a great match for strong coffees or spiced teas. They also pair nicely with fruit compotes or as a crunchy contrast to soft cheeses.
